Celfocus partnered with Telecoms.com for its Annual Industry Survey 2024, contributing with our expertise to analyse the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its anticipated impact on the telecom sector over the coming years.

The Telecoms.com Intelligence Annual Industry Survey gathered perspectives from telecom professionals worldwide, reflecting on the key developments of 2024 and exploring what lies ahead for 2025 and beyond. This year’s report was produced in collaboration with Celfocus, IEEE DiscoveryPoint for Communications, and ZTE, offering a detailed analysis of the trends and challenges shaping the telecom industry.

The survey highlights critical focus areas, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Edge Computing, and Next-Generation Wi-Fi, to provide a clearer picture of industry strategies and viewpoints. Celfocus collaborated in the Artificial Intelligence area, looking at the progress of AI adoption, the most significant opportunities and challenges, expectations of how AI will impact telecoms in the next few years, and how organisations are developing and implementing the tech.

Additionally, the report provides insights into what the future holds for telecom businesses, identifying key investment priorities, emerging technologies, and services that are seen as overhyped. It further addresses the potential risks and challenges expected to influence the telecom landscape.

  • AI (excl. GenAI), Automation, and Machine Learning (ML) are the top priority investment areas for telecoms organisations in 2025
  • Nearly a third of respondents have already started implementing and using AI solutions in some areas
  • Meanwhile, there is a dichotomy of views in the industry on whether AI will have a transformative or incremental impact on telecoms
  • Almost two thirds of respondents consider edge computing very important, if not critical, to existing telecom networks
  • However, nearly seven in ten respondents state their organisations to be still in an exploratory stage of edge computing
  • Top two key drivers to deploy Wi-Fi 7 are introducing new tech use cases and enhancing multi-user experiences
  • Despite the key drivers, half of respondents are uncertain about their organisational timelines for deploying Wi-Fi 7
